澳客网比分直播手机版 Developing a competence in material biology interactions that explores how materials interact with biomolecules, cells (both mammalian and bacterial), and tissue. The scope is to examine chemical, mechanical, and topological regulation of cells and tissues in the overlapping areas of integration, infection, and inflammation. The aim of this competence is to create the next generation of biointeractive materials that can influence stem cells and differentiation, as well as controlling the foreign body response and reducing infection.

The aspect of my work that excites and inspires me the most is...

Translating concepts of chemicals and materials through to applications in the medical field by working with multidisciplinary teams ranging from materials scientists, biochemists, and biologists to clinicians. I’m also excited by developing fundamental understanding, such as by working together with academia and bringing insights into applications to address unmet needs in the medical device, nutrition and hygiene-related industries.

The breakthrough I would most like to see made in my field is...

The ability to generate biomaterials that are able to enhance healing and regeneration in a way that is complementary to, or an alternative to, the use of drugs – that is, to achieve a pharmacological effect without the use of drugs. This can be done by using biomaterials to enhance the body’s capacity to heal itself. In particular, we need to explore the fundamental routes to developing biomaterials with intrinsically low biofouling and a reduced risk of biofilm and bacterial contamination and colonization.
